Arizona Department of Revenue

Online Privacy Policy Statement

The Arizona Department of Revenue (“ADOR”) has various internet websites, including http://www.azdor.gov and http://www.aztaxes.gov , to provide people with a convenient and efficient means to interact with ADOR without traveling to our offices. All individual agency websites of the State of Arizona are required to contain a Privacy Policy Statement that describes what information is being obtained online, how that information will be used, and what steps are being taken to ensure the security of customer data. Your rights to privacy are of utmost importance to the State of Arizona in building trust and confidence when conducting business through the Internet.

Online Customer Service and Alternatives

The ADOR websites offer many of the services and information online that you might otherwise obtain in person at an ADOR office. Some taxpayers are required to submit returns electronically. Except in situations that must, by statute, utilize electronic filing, you may choose not to proceed with an online transaction and your choice will in no way affect your ability to perform the transaction with ADOR through other means such as the mail or in person at an ADOR office.

Collection and Use of Information

Information Collected and Stored Automatically by Cookies

We do not use “cookies” to gather information during your visit unless we are conducting a survey and need them to prevent duplicate results. The web server that hosts the DOR site does gather certain information about the visit automatically in a standard log file. This information never identifies you personally and consists of only the following items:

  1. The Internet domain (for example, "xcompany.com" if you use a private Internet access account, or "yourschool.edu" if you connect from a university's domain) from which you access the website;
  2. The IP address (an IP address is a number that is automatically assigned to your computer whenever you are surfing the Web) from which you access the website; and
  3. The date and time of your access.

We use this information to gather statistics about the amount of use the site receives. Again, we do not automatically record information about you as an individual. This information is not shared, sold, or otherwise disseminated by DOR.

When, from time to time, we present a survey page on the site, use of cookies is limited to the minimum function necessary to prevent duplication of survey results from that page. A cookie is only transmitted at the time you submit the survey to us and consists of a unique text string to be stored on your computer and only retrieved in the event you return a subsequent survey to us. You can always avoid receiving the cookie by not submitting the survey to us. You can also refuse the cookie or delete the cookie file from your computer system by selecting various options on your computer’s operating system. Refer to your browser’s help facility for the specific instructions about deleting, disabling, or refusing cookies.

Information You Provide

You do not have to give us any personal information to visit our web site. No personally identifying information (such as your name, email address, or Social Security number) will be collected unless you choose to provide that information to us.

To process return or payment information or to provide you access to your own tax information, ADOR may require that you enter personal information. ADOR is permitted by law to require this information and it is needed to process your online transaction.

Information and applications submitted online will be treated in the same manner as information submitted in person or by mail. Online return and payment information is retained in the Department’s records pursuant to its normal retention schedule. The Department may share information, such as a joint tax application, with other state agencies as required or authorized by law.

The information you disclose to the Department is generally treated as confidential pursuant to A.R.S. § 42-2001. Confidential information may only be disclosed as set forth in the applicable statutes, including A.R.S. §§ 42-2003 and 44-315. Non-confidential information will generally become a matter of public record pursuant to A.R.S. § 39-121, et seq., which means that ADOR may be required to provide the information in response to a public records request or in response to a warrant, subpoena, or other court order. Please be assured that your personal information will not be shared, sold, or otherwise disseminated to any outside person or entity, except as required or authorized by law.

Information Collected from Children

By statute, all state agencies must comply with the Children’s Online Privacy Policy Protection Act of 1998 (“COPPA”), requiring parental consent before collecting any personal information from any individual under the age of 13.

Security

ADOR has taken several steps to safeguard the integrity of its computer systems and networks. These steps include, but are not limited to individual authentication, the security of transmitted data, security monitoring, auditing, and encryption of your information. Security methods and measures have been integrated into the design, implementation and day-to-day practices of the ADOR websites.

Other External Links Disclaimer

The ADOR websites contain links to various other web sites. When you link to another site, you are no longer on the ADOR web site and this Privacy Statement will no longer apply. When you link to another website, you are subject to the privacy policy of that new site. Links to websites outside of State government are offered solely for your convenience. The State of Arizona is not responsible for and has no control over the policies or content of any third-party sites.
